Coin sorters different for American and Canadian currencies, or are they the same?
I’m Canadian. I’d like to buy a coin sorter. As silly as this may sound, I’m not sure if there is a difference between American and Canadian coin sorters, or if there’s just one type of coin sorter used for both American and Canadian currency. Our coin is more or less the same, but would there have to be two different kinds of coin sorters for our two currencies? Thanks!!

The kind in the bank are definately not the same – Canadian and US coins are slightly different size and mass.
But the inexpensive plastic kind that just sort by coin diameter probably won’t know the difference.
Pennies, nickles, dimes and quarters are the same. I know because they work in vending machines so certainly coin sorters won’t have problems with them.
Americans have coin dollars but don’t use them, and I’m not sure American coin sorters even handle them because they’re so rare here. Besides Loonies, Canadians also have the two-dollar coin, which I know American coin sorters won’t handle.
So I’d say if you bought a coin sorter in Canada it would handle the coins of both countries.
