Canadian Currency

I was given some currency of Canadian bills. They were left to me by my uncle who passed away. I noticed that these bills are no longer used as they were changed in 2004. Am I allowed to use them or can I go to a bank to give me new ones which have been updated? Thank you kindly for any replies. Cherie

Try a bank and see what they say. If they can’t help you, they can tell you where to go.
Just because the government changes a bill doesn’t mean that old bills are no longer good currency. You MIGHT have some difficulty spending them at a retail outlet but chartered banks are obliged to accept them. Depending on what condition they’re in, it might be worth you while to just hang on to them. One day they might actually be valuable.
You should actually keep them a few more years. Some of those bills (like the 1$ & 2$ bills) have doubled in value since they’ve been out of current use. People who collect currencies can buy those off you later on. Check out ebay!

try an american bank, if they don’t accept them, next time someone goes to canada, give to them and try in a canadian bank, they should exchange with new bills.
As long as it is still valid currency it can be used. You should check them to determine if there are worth more than regular currency or if you wish change them at a bank that does so.
The ore 2004 bills are still valid. When Canada issues new bills, just like the USA, the old ones are still good.
You generally have to go to a larger bank to change them to US currency. Smaller banks do not do international transactions.
