How much is my penny worth?
I have a 1947 Canadian penny. BUT it has a maple leaf by the date. On ebay there is one that is selling for like 0, do any of you know if this is accurate? And if you know any info. on it, please include that…10 pnts! Here is the one on ebay that im not sure about…mine looks just like it too. http://coins.thefuntimesguide.com/2006/01/rare_pennies.php
Oppps, that is not the link, this is: http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-ANTIQUE-1947-CANADIAN-MAPLE-LEAF-DOT-PENNY-ERROR-/380238539535#ht_1372wt_930

My 2009 edition of the Standard Catalog of World Coins (the collector’s bible) list this 1947 Canadian penny with the maple leaf to be worth US$0.10 (you read right, a thin dime) in VG-8 condition, which is actually in quite rough condition. In uncirculated condition (Grade MS-60) it is valued at US$3.00. The highest grade given is a MS-63, which is uncirculated, almost a proof coin at a value of US$5.00. These are full retail prices. In actuality, it is rare that any of these pennies sell for more than a dollar.
A rare coin? Only 47,855,448 of these 1947 coins with the maple leaf were minted, but interestingly enough only 31,093,900 of the plain 1947 Canadian penny were minted, which in its top grade MS-63 has a higher value of US$7.50.
I think that seller, starting the auction at $99.95 + S&H + Calif. Sales Tax is the grandson of B.T. Barnum, whose grandpa told him at ever visit: Kid listen, there is a sucker born every minute. And man did that kid learn his lesson well. On the other hand, no one has made a bid on it yet and I don’t think he is going to get one. Put it on your Watch list.
P.S. I just looked at the enlarged photos of that listing and in my judgement that coin would be rated XF-40 (extra fine) which has a market value of US$0.35. Yeah, but the shipping is being charged at $6.95 for a 1oz envelope.
