What currency should I bring on my trip to Egypt?

I’m Canadian, and I’m going on a school trip to Egypt. My teacher told me to bring American money, but I feel that I will get disrespected and ripped off if I go around with American money since Americans have a bad reputation in the Middle-East. She also told me that it is not preferable to bring Egyptian pounds.

Buying low and selling high in currency conversion, CAN-USD, can money be made this way?

My wife and I have some cash to play with and she is talking about buying American money (we are Canadian) and putting it in an American dollars account at our bank.
