Are Ferrets Okay for Teenagers?
I adore ferrets and would very much like to get one for myself and I have a few questions.
1)How much would they cost -canadian currency-
2)Should I get two so it doesn’t get lonely?
3)Do I walk them outside -on my lawn- or inside?
4) Do they walk and play well on hardwood?
5)What are some essential items-other than food and water dishes and litter box etc.-
6)Would they bite me even if I didn’t do anything wrong?
7)How long do they live for?
thanks

1. $300-400, honestly… I spent $500 and my ferrets are spoiled, like they should be. You also need to put a lot of money aside for vet bills. My parents are paying, but if your aren’t you need to figure out a way to get enough money to pay for vet bills. If your ferret gets cancer and needs surgery, which is very likely, it’ll cost as much as $1000 for surgery, so keep that in mind. You should consider getting pet insurance.
2. Yes, or three! I have three and they’re a joy, they’re just as easy as one, but they’re way more entertaining. Since ferrets are so social they need a buddy!
3. Keep them inside, you don’t need to walk them. I ferret proofed my room where they run around and play, occasionally I let them walk around the house, but I stay right behind them at all times.
4. Hard wood=perfect, carpet would be a pain in the butt, they have accidents! And their nails would get stuck in the carpet strands. Mine play on hardwood, and they don’t slide at all… swear to god. I don’t know what they’re talking about.
5. Toys, Ferretone, a water bottle, beds like hammocks or sleep sacks, a big place to romp around and explore, a food bowl that attaches to the cage… and your love!
6. Some do it for attention, but it’s not a ferret thing, it’s just their personality. I would suggest getting from the shelter, they’re older so no trouble with biting or potty training, and they’re being saved!
7. 5-8 years.
READ FERRETS FOR DUMMIES. It’s ESSENTIAL to read that before owning a ferret.
I am a better ferret owner than a lot of people could be, because I did my research and I work hard. I’m 13. It’s true ferrets wrap their tails around your heart, but you need to experience it yourself to fully understand, they’re energetic (they dook), they’re funny, and they love to love you! All of my ferrets kiss me!
I love them so much, just DO YOUR RESEARCH. And you’ll be perfect.
1. i’m not sure but in the usa you should save up about $1,000 for the ferrets themselves, cages, toys, bedding, food, vet bills, ETC.
2. yes get two so that they have someone to play with when your not home.
3. you can take them outside but you have to leash train them first so they don’t escape, and also watch out for dogs, cats, birds, ETC.
4. hardwood is hard for them to walk on before of their claws. its slippery for them. they definitely wouldn’t be able to run or play, just walk and slide haha
5. LOTS of toys, a HUGE cage, vitamins, shampoo, more toys haha, and of course taking them to the vet yearly.
6. ferrets will bite but its hardly ever hard. they are like kittens. they are playing with their mouth so it wont hurt you.
7. ferrets live about 8 years but can live up to 13.
trust me don’t get a ferret ya there cute and cuddly but they stink really really bad
1) Around 250-500
2) One is fine. Two is great. Three is awsome!!!
3) Get a special ferret harness and walk them in the park
4) Yes on youtube a person does ferret bowling the ferrets go bananas.
5) They need a lot of toys.
6) Only a nip if that only when playing.
7) Around 7 to 10 years.\
Hope I helped.
