Are there any known counterfeit Iraqi coins?
I am a collecter of middle East coins. I have two Iraqi coins obtained from E-bay, KM#153 and KM#132. The features are not sharp and they appear to be soft plated metal. I have other coins of these numbers which are much better, and seem to be made of nickel? Has anyone else encountered them?

Neither coin is very rare or even scarce. Since they are military commemorative I wonder if some were not made as medals to be given away. They are supposed to be made of nickel. Could they have been say cleaned using an acid? Sorry I can only give you theory here. The biggest stink right now is all the Chinese fakes that are showing up. It would be unlikely they would do coins from Iraq due to the Arabic writing, they can’t even get the Chinese right sometimes. Good luck on your quest. One other thing do they have cat lines around the rims for they sound like a cast coin not one that was struck using 2 dies. There has been nothing in Coin World, Numismatic News (weekly coin magazines) or World Coin News a monthly magazine about Iraq counterfeits
