Best place to exchange currency in Holguin Cuba?
I will be travelling to Holguin Cuba at the end of the month and will be staying at the Brisas Guardalavaca.
Where is the best place to exchange Canadian funds to Cuban funds?
I get conflicting reports as to which is better, the airport or the hotel resort.

I haven’t found a good place yet to exchange the currency. At the hotel they usually have a bureau de change open at certain hours it is better than exchanging at the front desk (usually the same place) but a word of advise ALWAYS count your change back, my last two trips some of the hotel staff at the front desk were applying the stupid gringo tax which is usually a peso or two. Watch out for the 3 peso notes being passed as 5 peso notes.
Other than that I usually get a pocket full of 1 peso coins to give out as tips.
Have a good holiday and safe home
I doubt that anyone here knows. Have you tried asking on Trip Advisor or Debbie’s forume.
The best places are generally the banks and Cadecas (exchange bureaus). But I have no idea what there is in that hotel. If it is the hotel itself, they may give very poor rates.
The rates at the airport won’t be much different to a normal bank. So unless you are changing lots, it is probably fine to change there.
The standard rate is based on the USD with an 8% margin to the CUC plus 3% commission - check the rate as you are leaving and you should be able to calculate what rate to expect, and see if the airport is offering a good rate or not.
I’ve made several visits to Guardalavaca, upon arrival the cadeca (exchange bank"isn’t at arrivals it’s on the departures side of the airport so it would be a pain to find it to change money.a suggestion, wait until you reach your hotel, if there is a difference, it will be minimal.
