can someone please explain this to me!!! 10 points best answer?
this coin -> http://www.treasurerealm.com/coinpapers/countrycoins/N/Netherlands_Antilles.html 4th one down
i’ve looked on other websites too and they all say the same thing, it says its silver
but the thing is from what i’ve been told silver is non-magnetic
but when i put my rare earth magnet near it, it pulls strongly on it. Don’t say its counterfeit since i’m very positive it’s real. But over my research of doing my project (this is for my physics project on magnetism with magnetic coins) i’ve learned that if its mixed with something else it could be…for example 85% steel & 15% zinc coin would most likely be magnetic…
i need to write in my data table what this coin’s materials consist of …if u have any ideas what to write tell me =) or should i just write "silver"? but that conflicts with my experiment because silver is not supposed to be magnetic o.O??

I would just mention that your sources say that it is a silver coin, but your data suggests otherwise. I would say that it is more likely a core of magnetic metal coated with silver in the same manner that many modern coins are. What you could do is a little bit of home chemistry and compare the volume of the coin against its mass and test that to see if the mass is consistent with an item of pure silver of the same dimensions. Though that’s a bit of work.
If you’re POSITIVE you have the right coin, record what the meter reads, and explain the conflict. Could there be something else around throwing the meter off? Is the meter accurate?
Good luck!
With the current exchange rate, that coin is worth $0.06 US.
I highly doubt it’s pure silver. More likely an alloy or silver plate (which is why it’s attracted to a magnet).
It can’t be pure silver… the magnet doesn’t lie!
