Can you use canadian money in US?
I went to this store to buy a bag of candy and it was .25. I gave the cashier and in return for change I received .75. But, It had a one dollar bill and some coins in it. I looked into her hand and there was this unusual big brownish goldenish colored coin. She said it was a dollar. But, I said this isn’t canada. then she got irritated and gave me my dollar bill. Was she trying to rip me off? or try to take advantage of my age? I’m 15. Did she think that I didn’t know anything?

No, she shouldn’t have given you Canadian money back for change, you can’t use it here. There are 1.00 coins that you often get from gas stations, but if you don’t want them the clerk will often change them for you. I don’t know if she was trying to rip you off or not, but you are wise to always count back your change, no matter where you are. It is amazing how many businesses rip you off. Also check your cash register receipts when you buy groceries, there is always at least one item that a grocery store will rip you off on.
Usually you can, but not dollar coins and bills.
If the Queen is on the front and a loon is on the back, you have been given a $1 coin (Canadian). In fact the cashier was doing you a favour. Because our dollar is now worth slightly more that the American dollar.
And here in Canada the economists are saying that if the American federal reserve keeps printing endless amounts of fiat money, and Americans continue to ignore beefing up their means of production, and continues to go deeper in debt, the trend will continue and our dollar will continue to move ahead of the American dollar.
