Canadian spare change in the U.S.?

I’m from Michigan where I am frequently given Canadian quarters, nickles, and dimes as change and often see these coins spent as if they were equal to U.S. coins. But, at the time of me posting this, the Canadian dollar is actualy worth about 0.89 USD, so it would seem that if I get change in a Canadian format I’m actually being ripped off a little.
just purely curious—I’m not upset or anthing. mostly musing, but I’m hoping maybe someone with more education in this field might swing by
