Did the cashier at the casino rip me off?
I recently went to Caesars Windsor (Canada) for my 19th birthday. I used a machine to turn my American into Canadian and received . So, first question: is that exchange rate right or is it less than else where? Should I get my exchange somewhere else? Then, I took 3 worth of chips and coins to the register to get American money and I received 7.75. Is this accurate or did I get ripped off? Is that just how casinos are and am I flipping out for no reason? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Caesars Windsor has always made a few dollars on the exchange rate since the day it opened. They fudge the numbers of the exchange rate just a percent or so in their favor.
You are much better off going to a Detroit side bank and getting Canadian funds there and bring them back to the US and going to the bank to exchange them.
Just call your bank and see if they offer this service, most larger ones do.
But on the plus side, Caesars offers a much better player overall return than the three Detroit side casinos. Be sure you always get a players card too, they can earn you some nice comps, and they have been sending out match play coupons too.
And when you get your players card, here are a few tips on how to get the maximum comps out of it: http://www.thedoverpro.com/blackjack/blackjack-casino-comps.htm
Good luck!
1USD = 1.0965 CAD so 50 USD = 54.825 CAD
and 0.9120 USD = 1 CAD so 153 CAD = 139.536.
Thats the current exchange rate and i’d say you actually made out well by a little over 2 dollars. congrats on leaving positive too! haha im still trying to hehe
goodluck!
According to bambam’s figures, you actually LOST 2 dollars both times, not made.
I don’t know the current exchange, but if you give $50, and get back $53 Canadian, then you’re getting 6% extra Canadian.
At 6%, $153 should have gotten you $144.34. This is even worse than a 2-dollar loss! That’s $6.59 less! I have a feeling that there is some sort of fee involved. I doubt the cashier actually "cheated" you, but I don’t know.
It doesn’t hurt to ask while you’re there.
