Do counterfeit coins have any collectible value?
I have a fake 1861 Sitting Liberty dollar coin and would like to get something fair for it.

Since it is a fake of a Civil War coin there are people out there that would put it with their collection of Civil War items. Your best bet is an on line auction for then people find you, that are interested in it. With the large amount of fake coins coming in from China they really need to be grouped. There are fakes which stick out and few are fooled by it. Then there are the fantasy coins that never existed such as a seated liberty dollar of say 1845 with a reverse of a trade dollar that was not minted until 1873. There are also a lot of questionable Chinese charm coins with dragons and gods that never really existed. Then there is the down right counterfeit when the coin fools the average dealer and even a few pros. The last group is fakes made a long time ago that were made to be spent. a lot of Chinese dollars fit in here. You should be able to get $5-$20 for it depending on how bad someone wants it. Hope this helps and it may be wise to hold onto it for a while.
There are collectors for absolutely everything!! The only problem is trying to find them. They might be a very obscure market for some items.
As for counterfeit money, you will find that there is a sizable branch of coin collectors that specialize in counterfeits. Check any large coin club, or in the coin magazines for them. Anything is worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. Find the right person, and you will make a fair deal for both of you.
You might like to know they are more commonly called a Seated Liberty dollar or a Liberty Seated dollar. The link below is a small international group of counterfeit coin collectors. I hope they can help you.
