Hi, I am flying to Indonesia from Canada with a 23 hr. layover in Japan. I will need to get a hotel?
What currency should I use. Should I bring Canadian and exchange it into Yen. Bring american and exchange it. or Just use my credit card or bank card.

The cheapest option by far and certainly easy enough for you would be to stay at The Comfort Hotel Narita is ideally located near the Keisei-Narita and the JR Narita stations and at 5,800 yen per night it is one of the cheapest places I have ever found in the Tokyo/Chiba/Kanagawa areas. You will need to book and pay for the room in advance as it is very popular. It is simple yet clean and modern has a nice TV with English news channels only but hay and a kettle the beds are comfy and you can have a smoking or non-smoking. And it comes with a FREE help yourself breakfast and its a mix of Japanese and Continental options.I have stayed three times at The Comfort and never had any problems just a great sleep and easy ride to the airport and a very nice breakfast (I have even taken some of the fresh sushi and rice balls with me from the breakfast - its better than plane food by a mile) http://****choicehotels.com
*********From the airport to The Comfort is a very short train ride less than 10 minutes on the Keisei Line you can catch any train even the Rapid-Limited Express. You will need to catch the train at Narita-Airport to Keisei-Narita Station it will cost just 250 yen which you will need in cash.
To get to the hotel from the station is a 10 minute walk and its really simple ask a member of staff at the train station most will understand where you want to go and will certainly make sure you can see where you are going it is very close and very visiable.
*******To the money situation you will have paid for your room but you will need train fare and money for food and drink at the hotel (there is items avaliable plus vending machines and a smini-supermarket a few minutes from the hotel) I would change 25 us$ as this will give you about 3,000 yen which is plenty for 23 hours and the two train journeys - it you a big eater, want to buy alcohol or buy nik-naks then change a bit more.
Many people just hang-around the air port, but if you can afford a hotel stay, why not….? I’d suggest using your credit card. You may pay some exchange fees, but so as exchaning your money at air port. You really don’t want to have any left over foreign currency either.

I’ve traveled extensively overseas and always buy traveler’s checks at the bank before I go. I had a friend who was pick-pocketed at Orly Airport in Paris - he was only carrying cash on him and had to wire home for more money.
Problem with cash? NO refund.
Traveler’s checks? If stolen, or even lost, as long as you report it to your bank immediately - the bank will cancel the checks and send replacement checks to you, no matter where you are in the world.
When you get to Japan, you can go to a money exchange at the airport or bank and cash one or more of your checks for yen - as you need them (they come in different denominations.).
It’s safer to travel with a soft flexible travel money belt, that wraps comfortably around your waist under a shirt. Don’t use a wallet, you’d be stunned at how well pick-pockets do their work without you ever knowing.
Keep your passport on you at all times. Don’t leave it in your hotel room, it’s simply not safe. Keep your checks and passport in your money belt, they have special inserts available for them.
It’s a much safer way to travel, no matter what amount you’re taking with you.
I’d also check with your doctor to see if there’s any inoculations that you should be having before you go there.
Also, make sure you buy travel insurance before you leave, if you’re in some kind of accident overseas, it’ll go a long way to paying for doctors, specialists and hospital fees.
Only drink bottled water and make sure you pack anti-diarrhea pills. You can buy them over the counter in Canada and if you get some kind of tummy bug over there, you DO NOT want to be stuck without them.

I would get a hotel, otherwise you’ll be exhausted, that way you can travel a bit and rest.

Depending on whether or not you can afford a hotel or not. Some people just stay at the airport or go for a little sightseeing. You might want to consider using Travellers Cheques just in case your bags or wallets get stolen.
From my experience I found that most airports will accept american currency without having to transfer the money, so it might be best to use american currency just to save you from having to transfer your money at the airport in Japan before you reach your final desitination.
Booking the hotel and using the credit card.
This is wise choice.
