How often should I go to the grocery store? and what should be my budget?
I am currently living in Halifax, Nova Scotia (canada).
I have a college budget I suppose.
I get around 0 per month. 0 goes to rent. leaving me with 0 a month.
Firstly, how often should I go to the grocery store?
I always cook my meals, rather than buy fastfood. I would say that I would eat around 3 or 4 meals per day, and usually some snacks. I am also trying to gain weight (I currently weigh in at 137lbs, 5’9,20 yrs old)
if you were in my position with that monthly budget, what would you do? how many visits a month, and how much to spend per visit?
cheers!
and state the currency (american dollars, canadian dollars) etc.

You didn’t say what your other expenses were. Do you have a phone bill? Internet? Cable? Utilities? Insurance? All that will influence your food budget.
I usually have my food budget about $200 a month (I’m single and I cook my food). Now sometimes I don’t spend that much, but then at the end of the month I can splurge on a nice restaurant. As for grocery shopping, the more often you go to the grocery store, the more you’re going to spend. I wouldn’t recommend more than once a week. Check the circulars for specials and plan very carefully. Clip coupons if you need to and buy generic brands.
go twice each week and try to get something fresh that you enjoy like fruit and baked goods
if you are eating to gain muscle then you need to eat protein sources at every meal and snack, like a boiled egg, something with peanut butter, etc (protein doesn’t have to be meat)
buy things on sale price whenver you can
if you are a decent cook you can eat well on 5-6 dollars a day
weekly…
maybe go to your local fruit market to buy veggies and fruits whole sale for under $15 for the week. Than about $50 a week on meats and starches, canned stuff and frozen. Always cut coupons to save. u can always make left overs for lunch!Q
Well one person I say 50 dollars a week. 25 for emergency stuff you for got the first time. I usually go once a week[[[[[[[[[[[
Save $100 per month the rest for food.
When i lived alone, i would go to the store 2 times a week so that i wouldn’t have to worry about buying veggies that might go back by weeks end. Buying store brands will help save money, and you usually get the same quality as name brands. I use to spend between $50-$100 a week on food depending on what i needed but on average i think i fell around $70 and i still was able to eat well. Cooking your own meals will help because you will have left overs that you can eat for the next days lunch.
