Steven has 9 gold coins that are identical in apearance. However,one coin is counterfeit aand weighs slighly less then the others. Using a balance scale, How can he find the counterfeit coin in just 3 weiting.

1 weighing : put 3 on each side (total 6)
if the fake is in there, then you throw out the other 3.
if its not, its in the stack of 3 that wasn’t weighed.
2nd weighing : weigh 1 at a time. Its either there or its the one thats not on the scale.
maybe weighing them all and the one that wieghs less is the counterfit one???
