should i buy him a ps3 or an xbox 360?
my husband is a bit of a gamer and has always enjoyed racing and stealth games. hes also a fan of rpg games like grand theft auto. hes got a ps2 now, hes on his second. its starting to bite the dust however. we’ve also got a nintendo wii, but i was looking to upgrade the ps2. naturally, that would point me towards a ps3 but at a 499.99 price tag for the one thats backwards compatible, i was debating the xbox 360 at the middle level, the 399.99 package (all canadian currencies).ive heard him complain about how he doesnt like xbox controllers, but he will use one at a buddies house. ive also heard him comment how he likes the larger selection of games on the xbox 360. i dont know which one to buy him! what do you think a young guy would prefer? and what is most cost efficient (we have a young baby so i dont want to go TOO crazy). thanks!

- Xbox 360 shaun white snowboarding? What do i do after i collected all the coins and beat all the challenges on shaun white snowboarding?...
if he has mainly played a ps2 for his kicks in the past and has stated he dislikes the xbox360 controller he sounds a lot like me.
I have been gently coaxin my gf into buyin me either for xmas as i would be equally happy with either ( at the mo i have a ps2, psp an wii an pc obv)
none of which match the ps3 an xbox360
the selection of games an accessories make the xbox more desirable but i would be FAR happier to be presented wiv a ps3 come xmas.
mainly cos i just believe it will stand the test of time cos of sonys market share, investment capabilites etc.
i no microsoft are no small fish either but i jus think the ps3 seems like a slight step fw frojm the 360
go in any video shop now an notice the growing selection of bluray dvds an ps3 games for sale an hire , the space they command compares to a few months ago
plus the wifi compatibility wiv psp, sony ericcson fones , anyfin which supports sony mem cards, walkman, digi cameras etc
hang on, im just goint wake up my girlf an explain all this ha sure she’ll be thrilled!!!!!!!
well Xbox 360 is kind of cool, but the ps3 is better because it has better graphics and 80 GB hard drive, but its expensive. I’ll say ps3
Xbox 360 is the cheapest one. That is until you by the accessories that you will need. Wifi will coast you another hundred worth of greenbacks. This already comes on ps3. Plus for Xbox you need to a hd dvd which is atleast another 200. Ps3 have blue ray bult in so if he likes movies he will love blue ray. HD for ps3 can go up to 1080p and the hard drivews are made to be replaceable.Get A ps3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After careful consideration of the games your hubby likes, I’d definitely recommend the PS3, as Gran Turismo and Grand Theft Auto will both be out on PS3 first, and the former will obvioulsy be exclusive.
The PS3 is more cost effiecent in that it has a Blu-Ray DVD player built in it as well as photo,mp3 and movie storage in a large hard-drive. It could be used for ALL your entertainment needs,as mine now is, although I didnt plan it that way.I can surf the net, download demos and small games, watch DVDs, Blu-Rays, listen to my entire music collection, view my photo albums and play PS1+PS2 games.
360 currently has a lot more games at the moment, but the PS3 is catching up step by step. Id be honest with him and just ask him what he wants, but Id take the PS3 !
The PS3 plays full 1080p hi-definition wheras the Xbox just upscales the image. The internet gaming is free for the PS3 so over 5 years that’s £200/$270 saved compared to Xbox live. If you like online play there’s Warhawk and Unreal Tournament 3 is coming out. Also the Playstation Network has Little Big Planet and Home coming to it.
Blu-ray discs mean that more can be stored on PS3 games allowing them to be bigger. An Xbox DVD holds about 8GB but a single layer Blu-ray disc holds 25GB and a dual layer holds 50GB yet a 360 game costs the same as a PS3 game. The PS3 is a very cheap Blu-ray player while you have to buy a £120/$200 add-on to play HD-DVD movies.
The PS3 has been out a year less than the 360 and it’s graphics are already equalling or bettering those on the 360. As the developers become better at developing games for the PS3 the gap will only widen. As far as games go most of the better games for the Xbox are either multi-platform or going to come out for the PC at some point like Gears of War and Halo 1 & 2 already have. The PS3 has Uncharted, Killzone 2, Haze, MGS4, Final Fantasy XIII, Ratchet and Clank, and God of War 3 as well as the multi-platform titles like Call of Duty 4. Finally the PS3 has much better hardware than the Xbox which has massive 30% failure rate.
The Xbox’s strengths are that it’s cheaper (but I don’t think it is in the long run) and Xbox live is probably better (but you have to pay).
The original Xbox only had a lifespan of 4 years and with the 360′s problems it may only last another 2-3. The PS2 had a lifespan of 6 years and the PS3 is planned to last 7-10 years. All PS3 controllers are rechargeable, you just connect them to the USB port, but you have tobuy a rechargeable battery pack if you don’t want to use AA batteries. The PS3 is the most value for money as all models have a hard drive, a HDMI port, and Wi-fi built in but foe the 360 you have to pay more in some way or another for these features.
I think your personal preference for the games on each system should be what you base your decision on but I’d go for a PS3.
The Playstation has a much better history of RPGs than the Xbox, and Grand Theft Auto 4 may have to be put on multiple discs for the 360 because their smaller and your hubby might not like having to get up to change the disc.
you are better off getting a ps3 because…
- ps3 has a built-in blu-ray player
-ps3 supports 1.3 HDMI which has rich colors and xbox supports 1.2 HDMI
- ps3 has much more and better exclusives, most of them cant go to xbox 360 because it cant handle that many data(DVD- 8.5gb, blu-ray 50gb)
- because of the blu-ray’s huge space, ps3 will have WAY better graphics than 360
- online is free for ps3 not like 360
- ps3 will have over 300 games released by this spring
- you can browse the internet on ps3, no such thing for xbox 360
- when developers get used to the system, the graphics will be WAY better than 360. should take them a year to get used to it
- developers stated that they will start using ps3 as the lead platform and port ps3 games to xbox
- playstation home is coming out this spring, its a virtual community where you can hang out with friends and customize your own apartment which xbox doesnt have(FREE)
- ps3 is a true HD console. xbox 360 upscale games to 1080p and ps3 DISPLAY games up to 1080p
- built in Wi-Fi
- xbox 360: 33% hardware failure
ps3: .2% hardware failure(see the decimal? less than 1%!)
- ps3 has better back-comp except the 40gb
- rumble returns in spring 2008
- you can upgrade your harddrive without voiding warranties with any 2.5 HDD, which xbox cant because you have to buy a xbox HDD
(they actually have the step by step on how to upgrade it on playstation.com)
those are the ones that i know right off my mind but there are much more reason than this
Now I want you to do me a favor, list all the reasons why xbox is better than ps3. I PROMISE you that nobody will get at least 5 reasons
Prices as of today:
ps3- 80gb: $499 with motorstorm
40gb: $399 with spiderman 3 blu-ray
xbox 360(premium)- $349
(elite)- $449
if you want the accessories that ps3 comes with, that would add up to over 700 dollars, so that means ps3 is actually cheaper
Well I have the PS3 & Xbox 360 Elite. I mostly play my Xbox 360 because it has more games then the PS3. Why your husband he dislike the 360 controller? The 360 controller it is better then to compaire the PS3 controller. The PS3 controller it is smaller then the PS2 controller & not only that, it does NOT have dual-shock. The 360 controller it has dual-shock & comfirtible. I mostly play my Blu-ray movies on my PS3.
To be honest, 360 has good library games out. But, I do have to warn you that the 360 has failer because it over heats it self. But, you do have 3 yrs warranty.
Good luck.
The ps3 is the better choice of the two. It has better graphics and good rpg and stealth games. Like assassins creed and call of duty 4.
your husband’s game preference tells me that you should get him a ps3 why?
1. his game preference is like mine
2. ps3 has the upper hand on japanese made games meaning better rpg’s… games that have very deep and interesting story plots…
3. he likes action adventure and stealth games for this genre i would also highly recommend the ps3 because it also has the upper hand on this genre….. even though games like assassin’s creed (stealth game) isn’t exclusive for the ps3…. the ps3 version is still better….
XBOX 360 however….
has the upper hand on shooters sports games and western made games….
GAMES ON THE PS3 I THINK YOUR HUSBAND WILL LIKE:
assassin’s creed (not a ps3 exclusive)
need for speed pro street (racing game not ps3 exclusive)
Gran tourismo 5 (ps3 exclusive comes out 2008)
rumored new final fantasy game (rpg very good rpg)
i have all 3 consoles and although they are all great i champion the ps3 for these reasons:
i had to send back my xbox 360 elite 3 times
yes the xbox 360 controller is kinda weird to handle
since i have the same game preference as your husband the games on the ps3 appeal to me more….
hope this helped you out!:D
This is my cut and paste answer. The reason for that is because a tech info is a tech info, you can’t beat it (sources below).
PS3 will win the console war, no doubt. Xbox 360 and Wii are so weak from technological point of view, that in couple of years they won’t be capable of dealing with serious graphics. GTA IV, for instance, isn’t even announced for Wii - this toy won’t be able to cope with the game’s requirements. Xbox 360 is getting GTA IV, however, the game is going to be released on several DVDs - Xbox 360 owners will have to interrupt gaming process and switch discs (Rockstar complained about this issue). Only PS3 will have it on single BD-DVD.
Let’s compare PS3 and XBOX 360:
A third of XBOX 360 (33%) are malfunctioning right from the start. PS3 return rate is only around 0.2%. Despite some people say, that new 360 has no breakdown issues - just visit Xbox section of Yahoo answers and see for yourself an amount of complaints.
PS3 has 8 (7+1) kernels in Cell processor, Xbox 360 -only 3.
PS3 uses advanced tech called Blu-Ray, one disc can store up to 54 gb (in the future - up to 200 gb), Xbox 360 - regular dual layer DVD-9 (8.5GB). It’s possible to get HD-DVD (max. - 30GB) for 360, but it’ll cost you around 180$, in this case Xbox is going to be MUCH more expensive, than PS3.
Calculations per sec - PS3 - 51-billion-dot-product-operati… per second
Xbox 360 - 33.6-billion-dot-product-opera… per second
PS3 has full media support - USBs, built-in 4 slots card reader (except 20GB and 40GB versions), ability to use printer and so on.
Xbox 360 has USBs and only 2 memory slots.
PS3 supports up to 7 Bluetooth Controllers
Xbox 360 - up to 4 Controllers
PS3 - wi-fi included (except 20 gb version)
Xbox 360 - wi-fi will cost you around 100 $
Graphics are stronger in PS3, due to RSX chip, that was developed by Nvidia exclusively for PS3. RSX runs on 550 Mhz. It’s difficult to compare their graphics chips, because 360 has a video chip with totally different structure and operating memory is divided differently in both consoles. However, PS3 exclusives look better than 360′s exclusives.
PS3 uses technology from AGEIA company. It does to physics of the game same thing GPU (videocard processor) does to graphics. This thing is on sale for PC(special card). The price is around 350$. There is no such thing in 360.
Xbox 360 is widely known for so-called "red ring of death" problem - it gets overheated easily. My PS3 was running for more than 15 hours non-stop with no problems. Sometimes Xbox 360 becomes so overheated, that thermopaste on CPU melts, drips on motherboard and successfully shortcircuits it. That’s why in some countries people call Xbox 360 "Coffin 360".
Besides all of this, I’ve seen disassembled Xbox 360 - regular PC architecture - Billy Gates is an uninventive nerd (as usual).
When I saw disassembled PS3 - it was a surprise - smart architecture, good cooling (don’t buy external PS3 coolers - they make everything worse - original system is good), etc.
In 2008 PS3 will get more than 300 games, including Metal Gear Solid 4, The Agent and other great exclusives. Here is the good link to the future PS3 releases. http://ps3.ign.com/index/release.html…...
PS3 online is free, Xbox 360 - you have to pay.
There were reports, that 360 scratches discs. No reports on that in PS3.
The funniest thing, that right now there are no games for PS3, that show full potential of the console. Biggest games weigh only 25 GB (Xbox 360 will need more than 3 discs even for those).
On PS3 you can install other OS, such as Linux Yellow Dog, Ubuntu and others. Sony officially lets you do it. There is no such thing in 360.
PS3 HDD can be replaced easily with any 2.5" SATA 5400 RPM HDD (used in laptops). 250 GB will cost you around 170$. In 360 you have to buy exclusive HDD, where 20GB will cost you 100$.
Sony expects PS3 to stay on the market for, at least, 7-10 years. Also Sony reduces price now. There is a cheaper 40GB version of PS3.
Sony constantly upgrades PS3 software (free updates for OS) - you get new functions and improvements.
PS3 controller (sixaxis) has a motion control - you move controller - game responds. Wii has it, Xbox 360 - doesn’t. PS3 is getting rumble controller (Dualshock 3) in 1st quarter 2008, Japan gets it in this November.
On PS3 you can help sick people by running Folding Home project. Wii and Xbox 360 didn’t even think about it.
New 40GB is 399$ or 399 euro (depends on the region) - it has no backwards compatibility with PS2 games, has 2 USBs instead of 4, no built-in card reader, but it’s the same PS3, strong, reliable, less noisy, different cooling system. The price is friendly.
I didn’t mention Wii, because it’s so weak, no point to talk about it. Leave it for kindergarten and casual games.
