Treasure Hunters Roadshow; Was i given the right advice?
I went to the Treasure Hunters Antique Roadshow in Winter Haven Florida. I took my Dad’s Rolex watch, some old coins and some Gold. I offered 1 for my Gold at a Pawn Broker the week before.
The man I was sent to see was an English guy, he took one look at the watch and said its a fake. I was outraged, it was my fathers pride and joy, he could see I was upset so he took a closer look. He explained a few things what was wrong with the watch, he said he was 110% sure it was a replica, then said a low grade replica. He told me to throw it away as it is a counterfeit and its illegal to own such a watch.
He seemed nice, so I showed him my gold to test him, he quoted me 8.13, so I took it. He also bought some old coins off me, I was happy with what money they paid me. He seem to know his stuff where watches were concerned, I noticed he was wearing a Rolex.
My question is, should I take his advice and throw it away? I asked what he would give me for the watch and he said "Nothing, Its worthless"

Sounds like you where given the correct advice already. You already said the guy was nice, gave you a better price for your Gold and you said he knew what he was talking about regarding Rolex watches. Why doubt him? What would he have to gain? Throw the thing away, I hate fake items
Common sense says yes.
You did the right thing not taking the first price offered on your gold, you waited and earned an extra 27 bucks.
You admit the english guy knew his stuff on watches, so he should be able to spot a fake and if Treasure Hunters Roadshow is a reputable company they are right to refuse a replica/fake.
So I guess it is counterfeit, I am not sure if its illegal to own, but it is illegal to import a counterfeit, so if you went to another country or came back, you get in trouble for that. Although if it was your dads, you may not want to throw it away just for a keepsake, shame some guy ripped your dad off.
keeo it, but let it stay in the USA
Take it to a reputable jeweler. They will let you know.
