Was the 1992-93 season the greatest season in NHL history?
Now before anyone accuses me of homerism, yes I know the habs won the cup that year but there were so many things that were amazing.
1) It was the 100th anniversary of the Stanley Cup and the Royal Canadian Mint released the Stanley Cup silver dollar. (I have on in proof silver, WOOT!)
2) It was the highest scoring year EVER with 7,311 goals even though there were only 24 teams.
3) The playoffs had a total of 28 overtime games with 6 of those going into double-OT.
4) It was the closest we’ve been to a Montreal-Toronto cup final since 1967.
5) Manon Rheaume became the first female athlete to ever compete in a pro men’s sports league when she tended goal for Tampa Bay in the preseason.
For all these reasons, I believe the 1992-93 season was the most historically significant NHL season ever.
(And last but not least I sat directly behind the penalty box in the deciding game of the Wales final at the Forum, my last game there and the only playoff game I ever got to attend. *sniff!*)

You forgot to mention that some guy from Montreal beat cancer and came back to not only play, but win the Ross Trophy.
Great regular season…not so great playoffs (especially for a Pens fan like me).
Go Habs Go!!!
It could have been better; stupid islanders… (blatant homerism)
I think it was I also played goal to win the state champs. for my high school my Sr. year.
Yup…and right up until Game 7 of the West Final (when Kerry Fraser had temporary blindness)…I was with you. I was on a work assignment in LA, a lone Leafs fan in a sea of moronic bandwagoning Kings fans.
A magical playoff run in Toronto…hundreds, if not thousands of kids in the GTA were surely named Wendel or Doug as a result.
That the Habs beat the Kings was a tiny salve.
LA should have won that. Sorry but I just can’t stand classless hab fans (booing an injured player put the lid on it for me)… and I’m from Montreal. But it was a momentous season.
No offence but you are out to lunch and are being a homer. If you think something like a Manon Rheaume publicity stunt has historical significance, then all I can say is WOW.
