If that is it, then you can probably get more information on Google. If it isn’t, you should take it to a coin shop or someone who is an expert on value of past foriegn currency conversion.
The Escudo.
Here’s your answer!
-Currency : Escudos (PTE) till 28/02/2002
-1 escudo = 100 Centavos (centavos are … 1 Euro = 200482 escudos)

Escudo, meaning, get this: Coat of Arms (hence the coat of arms on the face of the coin) an Escudo was worth about 2 ptas, (I was living in Spain at the time, and thought more in Spanish than American money). A Peseta was about 1 cent. so, somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 cents, making your 2.50 escudo coin about the same as a nickel, here.
