The easiest way is to just use your ATM card at a canadian ATM- it will work fine.
How are you entering Canada? If by air, all airports have exchange counters. But the most convenient way is to just find a bank machine and withdraw Canadian cash from your US bank account. The exchange rates are reasonable.
exchange center available at most crossings, if not go to the bank (best exchange rates)
If you can manage it, you can stop at a Duty Free store before crossing the border, they usually have a desk for that. You can also use your ATM card, but beware the withdrawal fees. You can also stop at any bank and exchange money as well, I believe you might only need an ID for that.
Why exchange? It’s costly and a huge bother. Just use an ATM machine, and you’ll receive Canadian money. Easiest solution.
