Why are all prices so high in Canada?
Why is it that even after currency conversion, Canadians have to pay about 30% more for absolutely every consumer product around? For example, if you get on Best Buy’s Canadian website, and convert the prices to US dollars, than look at Best Buy’s US website… you’ll see that Canadians have to pay like 25%-30% more for EVERYTHING!! WTF?? Then throw in our taxes, and we’re actually paying about 35% more for everything.
The answer is that the Canadian economy is less productive on a per capita basis than the US economy. That economic fact can express itself in various ways — for Canada vs. the U.S., being very similar societies with similar goods and service available, seems to often involve higher taxes and higher retail prices in Canada to accomplish the same thing.
And yes, the Canadian economy is in fact considerably less productive per person that the US economy: the average Canadian worker produces less value than the average American worker. That is the issue and the entire explanation. Canadians who are incapable of understanding statistics always want to argue about that.
As to WHY the Canadian economy is less productive … lots of historical, political, and economic reasons; I don’t know them all.
taxes to pay for "free" healthcare & education.
Healthcare has to be paid some how right?
If you think Canadian taxes add only 5% to the cost of goods and services, you’re very naive.
