Would you be willing to use the dollar coins vs. dollar bills to save hundreds of millions of dollars a year?
The Susan B. Anthony dollar was a BIG MISTAKE but the golden colored coins are nothing like the SBA.
We print 16.6 million dollar bills every single day all the while the mint is producing hundreds of millions of the dollar coins that nobody is using and will not as long as we continue to print dollar bills…it’s just gonna take a little getting used to…a month after the dollar bill is gone we won’t even miss it.
It costs us 0,000,000 a year to print dollar bills that last on average only 2 years ( this 0 million figure is based on the cost in 2007, cotton prices are up a whopping 402% in just the past 2 years and the dollar bill is made of 80% cotton/20% linen…there is NO paper in the dollar bill ) …. the dollar coin will last 30 years. Look at your change and see the coins from the 90′s, 80′s and 70′s.
There is NO 1 euro bill, NO Canadian dollar bill, NO 1 pound bill. If they can do without why can’t we? Are we so spoiled that we can’t make this small sacrafice to save hundreds of millions of $$$$’s a year?
Finally, to those that think they will have a pocket full of dollar coins, take a look in your wallet right now and take a look at how many .00′s are in there. 3, 4 5 maybe???
Come on people…you will feel good using them knowing that it is a small start to fixing a wasteful govt. program of printing dollar bills and dollar coins at the same time.

Yes I would. Just don’t make it the same size as a quarter. We should also eliminate the penny.
Lead buy example.
The U.S. Mint will ship them in bulk to you free of shipping charges and taxation.

And you want strippers to carry coin jars…?
The only time I use currency these days is to by stamps at the grocery store.
I like dollar coins, especially the newer ones. However, not all machines (vending, washing machines etc.) accept them. And, if you need to carry a large amount of money, say $200, having a pocket full of 200 fairly large coins will be cumbersome. Unless they come out with larger denominations of coins, it is otherwise impractical.
Besides, most of us use debit or credit cards now a days. I rarely carry or use cash.
The dollar coins are used in slot machines. They also are saved by collectors so that they make a profit. They are minted and never seen again so it is like the government sold a dollar to someone for the cost of the coin.
They have been trying it for years .But like all government things they can’t get it right. If they just took all the dollar paper money out of circulation we would use any dollar coin that was available.
You’re absolutely right-I’ve spent quite a bit of time in the UK and Canada, and seen exactly how well the coins work. There’s another thing to consider when it comes to cost savings as well.
Before the recession, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing plants in Washington, DC, and Ft.Worth, TX were running at pretty close to capacity. While there are some things they can do to expand capacity in the existing plants, it won’t be that many years after the economy recovers that, if we keep printing dollar bills, we’ll need to build a third multi-billion facility to keep up with demand. Drop the dollar bill and switch to a dollar coin, and the existing plants have enough capacity for the foreseeable future.
As far as the "stripper" argument goes, beyond the obvious thing that someone always thinks they’re being clever by bringing up stripper’s tips, there’s this: If you’re tipping with ones, you’re either in the wrong place, or an incredible tightwad. Stick a crowbar in the wallet, tip with fives, and you get much better service.
The dollar buys what a quarter would in about 1970, and _nobody_ back then was saying how much more convenient it would be if we at a $.25 bill. Nobody would have said "Well, what if I’ve got to carry $50? Having to use quarters will be too heavy!" Because that’s what fives, tens, twenties, fifties and hundreds are for-so you don’t have to carry around 200 of anything.
