Can i go to the bank and ask if they have any old and rare coins i could buy?
Im really into collecting old and rare canadian nickels. My grandma said she bought these awesome ones from the bank. Can i just go in to my local bank and ask if they have any that i could buy? Could i look at them and pick the ones i want?

What I like to do is go to the bank and get $100 in nickels or pennies then bring them home and go through them all, pick out the ones i like then return the rest of them. They will not let you look through what they have at the bank because most of the time they don’t know what they have and they just roll up the special or old ones with the others. When i go through the coins i get from the bank I always come up with Canadian and US coins dating from now back until the 1950s, occasionally from even earlier. Coin dealers also have an awful lot of coins for sale compared to looking through bank rolls for the ones that you want. I would recommend you try both the banks and coin dealers. I usually go to my local bank and coin dealer and have developed a friendly relationship with the people who work there.
No I think u have to go some where people sell them, but u can see if I’m wrong. But look online website u can order
The only time you will get one from the bank would be by accident if it happens to be in their cash drawer. They definitely will not let you go through what they have. You can buy old, odd coins from coin dealers, at a flea market, sometimes at an auction or just watch the change you receive when you purchase something.
No, they won’t let you plow through the coins and keep the ones you want. But there are a couple of things you can do.
Most coin dealers (at least here in the states) have containers will low-value coins that you can look through (my local dealer uses coffee cans)-that would be one way.
The other thing you can try is to find a friendly teller at your bank, and ask them to keep their eyes open for anything old for you. They’ll keep all the silver for themselves, which is fair enough, but they might be willing to pull old nickels and cents that they run across.
