As a quick summary, Canadian 50 Cents pieces dated 1920 through 1967 contain about 0.3 Troy ounces of silver, worth about US $5 at today’s silver price. There are also some scarcer dates in the 1930s and 1948, for instance, that have considerably higher value to coin collectors. 50 Cent pieces earlier than 1920 were minted in Sterling Silver, and can be quite valuable if in high grades.
Half dollars dated 1968-on, issued for regular circulation (as opposed to mirrored-surface Proof coins sold to collectors) contained only copper nickel, and are generally worth just their face value in Canada. The last Canadian half dollar coin was a Queen Elizabeth II golden jubilee commemorative issued in 2002, and bearing the dates 1952-2002, which may be worth a slight premium over face to collectors.
For more specific information, what year was your coin minted, and what grade is it in? You can find a guide to grading Canadian coins - which generally are graded on the amount of wear found on the side with the monarch’s bust - at:

If you listed the date someone here could have helped you, instead of guessing or writing a book. In order to answer a question and get the answer right we need as much info as possible.
