The 1-dollar coin was introduced in 1987 as a cost-saving measure to replace dollar bills. The coin was instantly dubbed the ‘loonie’ after the solitary loon that graces the coin’s reverse side. The nickname caught on and Canadians have been using it ever since.
The 2-dollar coin, or ‘Toonie’, as Canadians have named it, features the image of an adult polar bear in early summer on an ice floe. The Polar Bear’s name is Churchill, after Churchill,Manitoba.
The 2-dollar coin was first introduced on February 19, 1996, to replace the 2-dollar bill.
Sure, they are legal tender; they are still being minted, so there is no reason they wouldn’t be accepted in Canada.
Yes, they are accepted at all locations.
Yes, of course, the Loonie has only been around since 1987, and the Toonie has only been around since 1996
Yep!
and just for the record, they also accept the old canadian 1 dollar bills and the 2 dollar bills.
Of course Canadian dollar would valid at all times.
