Currently 1 GBP = 2.11 CAD according to http://****xe.com/ucc/
I don’t know for the UK but if i had to do it, i’d probably go to my local bank. They will probably charge you a % fee of the amount changed.
It’s the same either way you change it
It would be the same whereever you change it but the dollar here fluctutates on a daily basis is currently aroung $.90 Us for one US dollar so that would probably get you around $2 canadian -1 british pound or there abouts.
Do your currency exchange at a bank, either in the UK or Canada. Avoid those currency exchanges in airports, they cost more.
I travel between Canada and the UK three or four times a year. I usually get a couple of hundred pounds in cash before I leave Canada and then use my bank ATM to withdraw money from my account while travelling. However, check with your bank about their charges for this. Mine are low, so it doesn’t gouge me.
I would change some pounds for canadian dollars in the U.K. and then use a credit card when here for other stuff, exchanging currency in a tourist area is usually the worst value.
