Going to Thailand in September. Would appreciate some general information.?
I’m a Canadian 19 year old woman. Going on my honeymoon. I know that it’s the rainy season, the currency is baht, and the majority of Thais are Buddhist.
Would like to know:
- Interesting facts.
- What I should be aware of (ex. scams, ect)
- What are the good beaches and clubs.
I appreciate any and all help. Thank you!

you will enjoy thailand.
first rule is ` respect to the royal family ` dont say anything bad about them. Personaly i think the king is a great guy.
no drugs. Do talk with and smile with Thais , they are lovely.
Scams are plentiful, just keep your money safe around your waist or in a safe of a reputable hotel. DO try the tuk tuks, but have a tissue ready to cover your mouth and nose. DO have a thai massage.
Float up and down the river, day and nite on the cheaper boats 18 baht or less on public boats. The royal palace is a must in bkk along with wat arun and wat po. depends what you want , clubs, patpong rd clubs are all about sex shows ( weird and leaves u thinking ). Bed supper club is good, pricey , ask hotel reception about that one. BTS, sky train is good for getting around the city, also underground, MRT. Go to kanchanaburi, see the war cemetary , ride the train across teh bridge onteh river kwai( 1 night ).
Beaches are getting crowded, so i always recommend up by similian, DONT do PHI PHI its over rated and over crowded. i am waiting for another 5 yrs and there wil be a small mcdonalds there. I wont go back there. DONT use the lonely planet, you will only end up with thousands of others doing as the book tells them to do Ko Jum ( ko Po ) on the way to ko lanta is peaceful , not great beaces but just laid back. Phucket as lots to do to . I love krabi to, but the beaches from there also get crowded. Dont know where u want to go so i cant really help much more. have fun, let me know
the orange juice they sell on the street is phenomenal. MBK in bangkok is a great place to waste an entire day. Phuket is the beachy, touristy place, though not sure what its like this time of year (I went in Sep). It is not as cheap as you might think. Street food rocks. Some people will try to rip you off so you just have to be aware. You MUST haggle with vendors, otherwise you will get hosed because the baht exchange rate is hard to do in your head while shopping (take a pre-made card or something). Bootlegged movies abound, and are awesome. Thailand is great and you will have lots-o-fun!
Your best source of information would be the "lonely planet" travel guide for thailand. It costs about $20 in paperback at most bookstores.
You can get plenty of practical information about Thailand and various destinations there at http://wikitravel.org/en/Thailand
In rainy season, it’s also a good time to go to north for trekking and rafting such as Thi Lor Su in Umphang district, Tak.

Thats a hard question to answer as I adore every inch of Thailand, I guess my advice would be to spend some time in and around Hua Hin, about three hours south of Bangkok, a great place for a couple of nights of your honeymoon would be The Dolphin Bay resort, which is about 45 minutes south of Hua Hin. Im sure you will have a great time where ever you stay, im going back very soon. Cant wait.
