When buying bullion, the most important point is to get it as cheap as possible, and later sell for the highest price. If one dealer charges even an extra %2, that can really eat into your profits. I’ve personally dealt mostly with APMEX and Bullion Direct (who has the Nucleo Exchange).
I suggest you use a price comparison site like http://coininferno.com Just scroll down and click on "Silver Maple Leaf," it’ll list the current prices from dealers.
You may be able to get silver bars a bit cheaper, but when you sell them you’ll also get a lower price. Coins also have the benefit that they may command some collector premium someday. For example, if you buy a bunch of Maples and then they decide to discontinue them, you can bet they’ll be worth a lot more.
But why limit yourself? I usually buy a little bit of everything.
You asked if it is better to buy coins or bars in terms of re-saleability. Generally, you should have no problems selling silver bars from well-known and respected companies like Engelhard, Johnson Matthey, and Heraeus. Some lesser-known minted bars might be less readily sold than common well-known 1 oz coins from government mints like the Canadian Maple Leaf and American Silver Eagle. These coins are known world-wide and have the added bonus of being legal tender.
You also asked what is a trusted site to buy coins from - My favorite is Apmex, you can’t go wrong buying from them. Also good are Provident Metals and Gainesville Coins
I’ve found ebay.com to be of some worth in this area. You can get most bullion at only a couple dollars shipped above spot price.
I’ve also used scottsdalesilver.com
Silver is a great investment because, even at nearly 40 dollars per troy oz, its undervalued compared to its historical value of 1/16 of what gold is worth.
