Why do American coins?
Why do a lot of circulating American coins have some rust colored stuff on the edges of the coin, while most Canadian coins don’t?

hi,
i have a few hundred dollars worth of american coins and would like to exchange them for canadian currency.
But banks in toronto only accept US paper money – where can i get canadian coins for my US coins?
My jar is getting full of Canadian coins especially Canadian quarters. I called my bank and they don’t accept them. I was hoping that I would trade them for american coins. Any suggestions on what to do with them?
Instead of traveling to Canada just to trade in the American coins!
When entering Canada, how does one go about exchanging US currency for Canadian?
ENTRY will be by car at a border crossing.
On the back it has a crown then below it says 5 cents 1890 which is surrounded by some sort of vine plant. On the front it has a picture of a woman my guess is that it is queen victoria as it says on it "Victoria Dei Gratia Regina" then it says Canada below it. It is in very good shape.
The half dime that i have is not in as great of shape as it is slightly bent. The back has the words "Half dime" and these words are surrounded by plants of some sort. The front has a seated woman with what looks like a staff in her hand. It says "United States of America" and has the date 1866 on it.
I got these from my deceased Grandma along with a bunch of other coins, but these two are the oldest N. American coins aside from some silver dollars from the 1880’s. I was just wondering how rare either of these two coins are? I would never sell them as they belonged to my Grandma, but i am interested in if they are rare or not. Thanks.
Oops not sure why this was put in genealogy. Must not be a coin section?
So I have old old canadian currency. From really old 1 dollars to big big 1 dollar coins. I also have a couple of american coins that are half a dollar. my question, where can do i find information about how much its worth.
I have recently acquired some old coins such as Canadian half pennies, pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollars and American coins such as nickels, dimes, half dimes, pennies, quarters(quarter dollar)
Some of these coins date to the mid 1800s.
I have no idea if these coins have any monetary value but would appreciate any input. I am NOT a computer wizard and am having difficulty looking this up on the Internet.
