Do you think American and Canadian coins should be of identical size?
Don’t you get tired of putting coins in machines just to have them spit out because they were from the other country but almost identical in appearance?
Either we’re friends and allies or we’re not.

It’s a different country. Why should their currency look like ours? But I do remember being able to use Canadian quarters in public phones and vending machines when I was a kid.
I know, it’s annoying. I’ve gotten Canadian coins back as change, too. And they’re virtually worthless to us.
Remember, because of the exchange rate the American quarter (etc.) has a different value then the Canadian. We’re friends, but our money isn’t interchangeable.
I suspect that you’d find the same circumstances in a lot of countries around the world. I spent years in Korea, and any time I traveled to Japan I was amazed how similar those two countries’ coins were to each other!
I don’t think we Canadians deliberately copy your money. After all, we use dollar and two-dollar coins now.
