I found a U.S. quarter that I think is a counterfeit. Can I get an expert's opinion on this?
I found this suspicious-looking quarter on the ground in a parking lot outside a toy store. I picked it up and immediately noticed that it felt lighter than a normal quarter. After closer inspection I determined that it was made completely out of plastic. I took it home and thoroughly examined it. It had all the markings of a regular quarter except that it had the word “VOID” written in large print on both sides. I am beginning to think this might be a failed attempt at counterfeiting U.S. currency. I found other markings that, if this is indeed a counterfeit coin, might lead to the ones responsible. In very small print were the words “Mattel®” and “made in china.” If you are an expert in counterfeit currency, please give me your opinion on this very suspicious coin.

You found it outside a TOY store. It is obviously a component of a TOY. nobody is going to spend the time to counterfeit a quarter when the same amount of time could be spent to counterfeit a dollar coin with 4x the return on the effort.
It is obviously play money! My little niece has a lot of it.
HAHAHHAHAHAHA DERPY DERP!
