By experience I could say that the cost of living in DR is cheaper, way cheaper! I will give you some idea of how much things cost in pesos so you can get the image. A 20 minute ride in cab within the city is about $300 pesos, 1 liter of Coke is $20 pesos, a meal in a decent but modest restaurant (meat, fries, salad) would be around $200-250 pesos and finally for a woman to do her hair (wash, blow dry and style) is about $150 pesos. The idea is that you compare how much these things cost where you live and have some idea of currency exchange.
hey there
im going too!!!
its better to use american dollars isnt it??

Not a lot, but not too little.
You can pay dinner for 2, but like pasta or pizza.
For Seafood and drinks, that’s the price per person.
Some examples:
1 gallon of Gas - RD$200
1 bag of chips - $20
1 beer - $50 (in a retail store)
1 beer- $150 (disco or cafe)
1 whisky- $200-300 (disco or cafe)
1 bottle of whisky - $500-$1000 (retail store)
Hope that helps,
34.50 pesos equal one canadian dollar. In the grocery store you can buy 6 bottles of beer for 200 pesos. I would say that very good.
Enjoy)
Reading the other answers, I have the feeling some of them don’t have much experience about the cost of life over here. But anyway with 690
pesos you can do various things but don’t think you’re the "King" with that sum. I suggest you take your credit card with you and change to dominican currency at a ATM and this will be the best way (and cheapest) to have dominican pesos in your pocket. Don’t forget to discover this nice country!
Hope this helped (OBW a coca cola is 25 pesos not 20 )
