Could the or our government outlaw melting down coins with monetary value?
Lets say oh I have 4 tubes of Canadian Silver Maples (due to Michael Ruppert scaring the crap out of me) which have a face value of each but are 1oz silver, could the government make it illegal to melt them down and only take each for them? I know it is easy to say yes the government could just as easy as it is saying they can take your guns away but how likely is it? Talking about US government.

Here in the US, it is illegal to alter US coins or currency in any way. You can do what you want with money from other countries.
You can sell the Canadian coins for their silver value. Check out the coin sales on ebay. If you melt them, you will have a harder time selling them. People can easily find the silver value of govt made coins, but can’t easily determine the value of a silver bar you melt yourself.
In the US the Canadian coins are worthless, so you could melt them for the silver. US currency is illegal to melt down.
It’s already illegal to melt US government issued coins. If they’re another countries coins, I doubt the US would care much.
Sure they can I guess. While they are at it, will the Canadian make it illegal to club to death baby harp seals?
The Canadian government is the outfit that’ll nail you for that. I’m sure you’d take it up the butt in a Canadian prison just like you would in an American one.
You are too late. The silver dimes have long been melted
The mint can do it themselves, and it is illegal for citizens to do it.
Most countries make it illegal to melt down their currency for 2 main reasons:
1) Insult to the country, something like burning the flag etc.
2) It screws up the "value vs money" ratio. If a lot of people did that, the calculated value of the bill/coin would not match the amount of resources/goods/gold reserves etc, so the dollar becomes overvalued, and see how much noise America is already making over an undervalued Yuan. If the gap widens…
