I have a question for Americans about money?
Not to sound ignorant or stupid (at least no more stupid than the people who ask me if I speak Canadian, or the people who ask what it’s like to live in an igloo), but I was just wondering, in the US do you have:
pennies ({content}.01 coins)?
nickles ({content}.05 coins)?
dimes ({content}.10 coins)?
quarters ({content}.25 coins)?
Loonies ( coins)?
Toonies ( coins)?
And if not, what do you call them?
So do I, but those aren’t common here
Pennies, nickles, dimes and quarters are very common. We also have half-dollars, but those are rare. We also have several different styles of dollar coins. One of them is a dingy yellow and has some Injun squaw’s picture on it. She supposedly helped Lewis and Clark on their trip down the Missouri River, but you have to wonder why the coin-designers never actually honored Lewis and Clark, themselves, with such a coin.
We’re the same until you get to the loonies and the toonies. We have dollar coins, but they don’t get used too frequently since we also have dollar bills.
Everything’s right except the Loonies and Toonies. We don’t have $2 coins, and $1 coins are rare. We use dollar bills for those ($1 bill, $2 bill).
In America, there is a $1 coin with Sacajawea on it, but we usually use $1 bills with Washington on them. We don’t have a $2 coin; instead we have a $2 bill with Jefferson on it, but these are very rare.
I have a $0.50 coin…
You were with me until you got to the loonies and toonies. We have one dollars that are coins and paper. Five, tens, twentys and hundreds. Unfortunately I don’t have any right now. Ha Ha Also the Igloo thing was funny.
