Americans: Do you get this too?
I live in Canada and always have US coins in my change. Here, everyone uses them as though they’re Canadian currency because they look practically the same. Cashiers hand me US coins all the time… I was wondering, does this happen in the States too? Do you guys receive and spend Canadian coin like your own?

Happens a lot, at least here in Minnesota. It’s a pain in the butt, as vending machines won’t taken Canadian coins.
I live way down south, so it’s uncommon, but it does happen.
The banking systems have rejected them in the past because their value was less than the American currency. But that has totally *changed* (pardon the pun)…lol.
Canadian currency is now worth more than American coins. I would say America should welcome Canadian currency.
Not too often, but it does happen. I would think it would happen more often, since I live close to Canada, in MN.
Yes….We have a jar of them here at the house.
Also some Mexican coins; I just give them to my nephew, he thinks they’re cool
yes that happens all the time here too… But you should tell the cashiers that they are short changing you next time it happens, cause the Canadian dollar is worth more than a greenback.
Sometimes, i get canadian coins, most commonly in place of dimes.
I’ve only seen pennies and quarters.
whenever I get a canadian coin, I usually throw it away!
I get them all the time. I live in NM When we went to Canada, a few years ago, I had enough for 2 meals for the 3 of us. I don’t know how much I have now. We are not able to just switch them out. That is how I get some. People don’t want them and they just give them to me.
That happens in Australia with Fijian/New Zealand and especially Singaporean ten cents.
Not much, but still…I always feel jipped!
Yes it does, we live in Maine and we go to Canada every year
all the time i give them to the school so the children can see different type of money
Rarely. Although recently the looney has been near par with the buck, in times past it was worth less, and anyone who got a Canadian coin in change could reasonably feel cheated. So Canadian coins tended to get sequestered rather quickly. They still do, although the motive for doing so is much diminished.
Live in the Detroit area, get your coins all the time. The strange thing is a lot of establishments will not accept canadian regardless of the exchange rate. Canadians can leave their money with me all they want. Even better, leave all their beer! But please, keep that nasty cold and snow!
The merchants as a rule will try to pass them off, but won’t take them.
If they had any sense they would take them , since they are worth more than our coins now.
But sense and US merchants are diametrically opposed ideas.
The same happens in the U.K.
Im a half Scottish, half English guy, living in England and we can use each others money.
But its silly really, because we are all just British in nationality, and the money has identical value - just different pictures!
I just thought I’d share that with you
Yes, I live in Buffalo. Always seem to find Canadian coins.
I save for my next trip to Canada.
right now I wish we would.
Once in a blue moon it happens. And generally only with the Canadian penny, as it’s very similar to our penny.
Not often, but it does happen.
